Slovenia 1991 Coat of Arms
Slovenia · 1991 · 5 tolarjev
This stamp features the newly adopted coat of arms of the Republic of Slovenia. The design showcases a shield with Mount Triglav, Slovenia's highest peak, represented by three white peaks, with two wavy blue lines below symbolizing the Adriatic Sea and local rivers. Three golden six-pointed stars, arranged in an inverted triangle above the peaks, are taken from the coat of arms of the Counts of Celje.
Issued on June 26, 1991, this was the very first postage stamp of the newly independent Republic of Slovenia, released one day after its declaration of independence from Yugoslavia. It symbolizes the birth of the new nation and its sovereignty.
