Slovenia Coat of Arms, First Definitive Issue
Slovenia · 1991 · 1.00 SIT
This stamp features the newly adopted coat of arms of the Republic of Slovenia. The design centers on a shield depicting Mount Triglav, Slovenia's highest peak, with two wavy blue lines below representing the Adriatic Sea and local rivers. Three golden six-pointed stars, arranged in an inverted triangle above the mountain, are taken from the coat of arms of the Counts of Celje.
Issued on June 26, 1991, this was the very first postage stamp of Slovenia, released one day after the country declared its independence from Yugoslavia. It symbolizes the birth of the new sovereign nation.
