Romania 1858 'Cap de Bour' (Bull's Head) 27 Parale
Romania · 1858 · 27 Parale
This stamp, known as the 'Cap de Bour' or Bull's Head, is the first postage stamp issued by the Principality of Moldavia. The design features the coat of arms of Moldavia, which includes an aurochs (bull's) head, a five-pointed star, a post horn, and Cyrillic inscriptions indicating the value and 'Porto Scrisorei' (Postage for a letter). It was printed by hand on laid paper.
Issued in July 1858 in the Principality of Moldavia, just before its union with Wallachia to form the United Principalities, the forerunner of modern Romania. These stamps are iconic symbols of Romanian national identity and philatelic history.
