Moldavia "Bull's Head" (Cap de Bour) 27 Parale
Romania · 1858 · 27 Parale
This stamp features the head of an aurochs (or bull), the coat of arms of the Principality of Moldavia, with a five-pointed star between its horns. The denomination and Cyrillic text are hand-stamped in a circular frame. It is one of the most iconic and sought-after classic stamps in European philately.
Issued by the Principality of Moldavia just before its union with Wallachia to form Romania, the "Cap de Bour" stamps were the first postage stamps issued in the region and are a symbol of national identity.
