Poland No. 1, 10 Kopecks, Coat of Arms
Poland · 1860 · 10 Kopecks
This is the first postage stamp issued for the Kingdom of Poland, then under Russian administration. The design features the Russian Imperial Eagle in the center, with the Polish White Eagle on a shield on its breast. The denomination of 10 Kopecks is inscribed in both Polish and Russian Cyrillic script, surrounded by an ornate oval frame.
Issued on January 1, 1860, this stamp reflects the political reality of the Congress Kingdom of Poland as part of the Russian Empire following the partitions of Poland. It was invalidated after the January Uprising of 1863-1864.
