Poland Number 1, Coat of Arms
Poland · 1860 · 10 Kopecks
This is the first postage stamp issued for the Kingdom of Poland, then under Russian administration. The design features the Polish White Eagle on a shield, superimposed over the Russian Imperial double-headed eagle, symbolizing the dual authority. The denomination is in Russian currency, 10 Kopecks, reflecting the political reality of the time.
Issued in 1860 during the period of Russian partition, this stamp was a precursor to the January Uprising of 1863. It was withdrawn from use in 1865 when Polish stamps were replaced by those of the Russian Empire.
