Central Lithuania Overprint on Lithuania, 1920

Central Lithuania · 1920 · 20 skatikų

This stamp is an overprint on a 1919 Lithuanian issue. The original design features the Vytis, the coat of arms of Lithuania, showing a knight on horseback. The overprint "SRODKOWA LITWA" and "20 sk." was applied for use in the newly proclaimed Republic of Central Lithuania.

Issued following the Żeligowski's Mutiny, these stamps were used in the short-lived Republic of Central Lithuania (1920-1922), a Polish-backed state centered on Vilnius, before its incorporation into Poland.
