Romagna 1/2 Bajocco, Yellow-Ochre
Romagna (Italian States) · 1859 · 1/2 Bajocco
This stamp, the first issued by the Provisional Government of Romagna, features the Papal Keys and Tiara within a decorative frame. The denomination '1/2 BAJOCCO' is inscribed at the bottom, with 'FRANCO BOLLO' at the top and 'POSTALE' along the sides. It was printed in a distinctive yellow-ochre color.
Issued in September 1859 after Romagna seceded from the Papal States, these stamps were used for only a few months before the region was incorporated into the Kingdom of Sardinia, a key step in the unification of Italy.
