Sicily 2 Grana, Blue, Plate I

Kingdom of Sicily · 1859 · 2 Grana

This classic stamp from the Kingdom of Sicily features a right-facing portrait of King Ferdinand II, known as 'Re Bomba'. The design is framed by an ornate border with the denomination 'GR. 2' at the bottom and 'BOLLO DELLA POSTA NAPOLETANA' (Stamp of the Neapolitan Post) inscribed around the portrait. This specific issue is from Plate I, identifiable by its distinct shade of blue.

Issued in 1859, this was part of the first and only stamp series from the independent Kingdom of the Two Sicilies before its annexation into the Kingdom of Italy during the Risorgimento in 1861.
