This stamp features a right-facing portrait of Queen Victoria, known as the 'Small Queen' issue. The design is framed by an ornate oval and includes the denomination 'THREE CENTS' at the bottom and 'CANADA POSTAGE' at the top. This series was the workhorse of Canadian mail for over two decades.
Issued shortly after the Canadian Confederation in 1867, the Small Queen series replaced the earlier 'Large Queen' issues and was used extensively during a period of significant national expansion and development.
