Queen Victoria Definitive, Straits Settlements

Straits Settlements · 1867 · 2 Cents

This definitive stamp features a diademed profile portrait of Queen Victoria, facing left, within an octagonal frame. The design is based on the contemporary stamps of British India, overprinted with a crown and the new denomination in cents. The corners are adorned with intricate scrollwork.

Issued in 1867, this was among the very first stamps of the Straits Settlements after its administration was transferred from British India to the British Colonial Office, marking its new status as a Crown Colony.
