Straits Settlements Queen Victoria Postage Stamp
Straits Settlements · 1867 · 2 Cents
This stamp features a diademed profile portrait of Queen Victoria, facing left, set within an octagonal frame. The design is a definitive issue, overprinted in black with a crown and the new denomination of 'TWO CENTS' on an existing East India postage stamp. The original value is obscured by the overprint.
This is one of the first stamps issued for the Straits Settlements after it became a British Crown Colony in 1867, transitioning from the control of British India. These initial issues were overprints on stamps of British India.
