Sudan 1898 Camel Postman

Sudan · 1898 · 1 Millieme

This definitive stamp features a classic and iconic design of a postman riding a camel through the desert. The design, created by Captain E. A. Stanton, symbolizes the primary method of mail delivery in Sudan at the time. The stamp is bicolored, with a black vignette of the camel and rider set within a carmine frame.

Issued under the Anglo-Egyptian administration following the reconquest of Sudan, this series was the first to replace the overprinted Egyptian stamps. The 'Camel Postman' design became one of the most famous and long-lived in philatelic history.
