Sudan 1 Piastre Surcharged Postage Stamp
Sudan · 1897 · 1 Piastre
This stamp features a classic design of a camel postman, symbolizing the postal service in the region. It is an Egyptian stamp that has been overprinted with 'SOUDAN' in both Arabic and French, marking the establishment of the Anglo-Egyptian condominium's postal administration.
Issued in March 1897, this was the very first postage stamp of Anglo-Egyptian Sudan. The use of overprinted Egyptian stamps was a provisional measure until dedicated Sudanese designs could be produced.
