Sudan General Gordon Postage Due Stamp
Sudan · 1897 · 1 Mill
This is one of Sudan's first postage due stamps, issued under Anglo-Egyptian administration. The design is purely functional, featuring the denomination '1 MILLIEME' and the word 'SUDAN' in both English and Arabic script, framed by an ornamental border. The stamp was intended to be affixed to mail with insufficient postage to collect the amount due from the recipient.
Issued in 1897, this stamp represents the establishment of a formal postal system in Sudan following the Mahdist War, under the authority of the Anglo-Egyptian condominium.
