Panama · 1915 · 1c, 2c, 2½c, 5c, 10c, 12c, 15c, 20c, 50c
This commemorative set of nine stamps was issued by Panama to honor the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition held in San Francisco. The designs feature a map of the Isthmus of Panama, the Gaillard Cut of the Panama Canal, and a portrait of Vasco Núñez de Balboa, the first European to reach the Pacific from the New World. The stamps were printed by the American Bank Note Company in New York.
Issued to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal in 1914 and the subsequent international exposition, these stamps highlight a pivotal moment in global trade and engineering. The series was released in conjunction with a similar set from the United States.
