Panama 1935 Christopher Columbus Unissued Set

Panama · 1935 · 1/2c to 1 Balboa

This set of ten airmail stamps features various scenes related to Christopher Columbus's voyages and discoveries. Designs include portraits of Columbus, his ships (the Niña, Pinta, and Santa María), maps of the New World, and depictions of his landing. The stamps were printed by the American Bank Note Company but were never officially issued for postal use.

Prepared in 1935, this series was intended to honor Christopher Columbus but was never placed on sale by Panamanian postal authorities. The reasons for their non-issuance are not definitively known, but they have since become available on the philatelic market.
