Malta Queen Victoria Halfpenny Yellow
uncommonpre-1900

Malta Queen Victoria Halfpenny Yellow

Malta · 1860 · ½d

This stamp features the diademed head of Queen Victoria, facing left, within an octagonal frame. It is the first postage stamp issued by Malta, printed in a distinctive yellow-buff color without perforations. The design is based on the British Halfpenny stamp of the same era.

Issued under British rule, this stamp marked the beginning of Malta's independent postal system, replacing the use of British stamps. It was in use for over two decades, with various printings and paper types.
