Montenegro Postage Due Stamp, 1905
Montenegro · 1905 · 50h
This is a postage due stamp from the Principality of Montenegro, issued in 1905. The design features a large numeral '50' indicating the value, surrounded by an ornate, decorative frame. The Cyrillic text at the top reads 'ПОРТО' (Porto), meaning postage due, and at the bottom 'ЦРНА ГОРА' (Crna Gora), the country's name.
Issued during the reign of Prince Nicholas I, these stamps were used by post offices to collect payment for insufficient postage from the recipient of a letter. This series was the second set of postage due stamps for Montenegro.
