Italian Stamps Overprinted 'CRNA GORA' for use in Montenegro
Montenegro · 1941 · Various
This series consists of contemporary Italian definitive stamps overprinted in black with 'CRNA GORA' for use in the Italian-occupied territory of Montenegro. The underlying Italian stamps feature various designs, including portraits of King Victor Emmanuel III and symbols of the Fascist regime. The overprint legitimized the use of Italian postage within the newly established protectorate.
During World War II, following the Axis invasion of Yugoslavia in April 1941, Montenegro was occupied by Italy and established as a protectorate. These overprinted stamps were issued for postal use during this period of Italian administration.
