Latvia 1919 Unissued Russian Occupation Issue
Latvia · 1919 ·
This stamp is part of a set of eight unissued designs prepared for Latvia under a proposed Russian occupation. The designs feature the coat of arms of the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic, which includes a rising sun, a hammer and sickle, and ears of wheat. These stamps were printed but never officially issued or used for postage.
Prepared during the Latvian War of Independence (1918-1920), these stamps reflect the turbulent period when Bolshevik forces briefly controlled parts of Latvia. They were never put into circulation as the Latvian SSR was short-lived.
