Central Lithuania, First Issue, Coat of Arms

Central Lithuania · 1920 · 25 Fenigów

This is the first postage stamp issued by the short-lived Republic of Central Lithuania. The design features the Polish White Eagle and the Lithuanian Vytis (a knight on horseback) on a shield, symbolizing the intended union of the two regions. The denomination is in Polish currency, reflecting the political alignment of the state.

The Republic of Central Lithuania was a puppet state created in 1920 by Poland after seizing the Vilnius Region from Lithuania. It existed for only 18 months before being annexed by Poland in 1922.
