This stamp is the first postage stamp ever issued by the Kingdom of Laos. The design features a portrait of King Sisavang Vong, the first and only king of a unified Laos, facing left. The country's name is inscribed in both French ('ROYAUME DU LAOS') and Lao script, with the denomination at the bottom.

Issued in 1951, this stamp marks Laos's entry into the Universal Postal Union and its philatelic independence following its establishment as a semi-autonomous state within the French Union.
