This is the first postage stamp ever issued by the Kingdom of Laos. The design features a portrait of King Sisavang Vong, the first and only king of a unified Laos, facing right. The stamp is inscribed 'ROYAUME DU LAOS' (Kingdom of Laos) and 'POSTES' (Postage).
Issued in 1951, this stamp marks Laos's philatelic independence as an associated state within the French Union, shortly before gaining full independence in 1953.
