Lion and Sun, 1 Shahi Black on Bluish Paper

Iran · 1868 · 1 Shahi

This is the first officially issued postage stamp of Persia (modern-day Iran). The design features the classic Lion and Sun (Shir-o-Khorshid) emblem, a prominent national symbol, set within an ornate circular frame. The denomination is indicated in Persian script at the bottom.

Issued under the Qajar dynasty during the reign of Naser al-Din Shah, this stamp marks Persia's entry into the global postal system and the beginning of its philatelic history.
