Persia Shah Nasr-ed-Din Qajar, First Issue

Iran · 1868 · 1 Shahi

This is the first postage stamp issued by Persia, now known as Iran. The design features the national emblem, the Lion and Sun (Shir-o-Khorshid), within a circle, surrounded by Persian script indicating the value. The imperforate stamp was crudely printed, resulting in significant variations.

Issued during the reign of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar, this stamp marks Persia's entry into the global postal system and the beginning of its philatelic history.
