Jaipur Feudatory State Chariot Stamp
India (Jaipur State) · 1904 · 1/4 Anna
This stamp from the Indian Feudatory State of Jaipur features a two-wheeled chariot, or 'ratha', drawn by two horses. The design is framed by ornate patterns, with the denomination 'Quarter Anna' inscribed in English at the bottom and inscriptions in Nagari script above. This was the first postage stamp issued by the state of Jaipur.
Issued under the authority of Maharaja Madho Singh II, this stamp represents the postal autonomy of the princely states within British India before they were fully integrated into the Indian postal system.
