Jaipur Feudatory State, Chariot of the Sun God (Surya)

India (Jaipur Feudatory State) · 1904 · 1/4 Anna

This stamp from the Indian Feudatory State of Jaipur features a depiction of the Chariot of the Sun God, Surya. The design shows a two-wheeled chariot drawn by seven horses, a central motif in Hindu mythology representing the sun's journey across the sky. The denomination 'QUARTER ANNA' and the state name 'JAIPUR STATE' are inscribed within the ornate frame.

Issued in 1904, this was the first postage stamp of the Jaipur state, which had previously used general issues of British India. The stamps were valid only for postage within the state's territory.
