Israel Doar Ivri First Coinage Stamps
Israel · 1948 · 3m, 5m, 10m, 15m, 20m, 50m, 250m, 500m, 1000m
This set features designs based on ancient Hebrew coins from the First Jewish-Roman War and the Bar Kokhba revolt. The stamps are inscribed with 'Doar Ivri' (Hebrew Post) as the name 'Israel' had not yet been officially chosen at the time of printing. They represent the first postage stamps issued by the nascent state.
Issued on May 16, 1948, just two days after Israel's Declaration of Independence, these stamps mark the establishment of the state's postal service during the ongoing War of Independence.
