Hungary, 1871 Newspaper Stamp, Engraved
Hungary · 1871 · 1 Krajczár
This is the first newspaper stamp issued by Hungary. The design features a large numeral '1' for the denomination within a simple, elegant frame, with 'MAGYAR KIR. POSTA' (Hungarian Royal Post) at the top and 'HIVLAP BÉLYEG' (Newspaper Stamp) at the bottom. The currency 'KRAJCZÁR' is inscribed below the central numeral.
Issued in 1871, this stamp marks an early period of Hungarian postal independence following the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867. It was specifically created for the prepayment of postage on newspapers.
