Hungary 1871 First Issue, Franz Joseph I
Hungary · 1871 · 2 Krajczár
This stamp features a right-facing profile portrait of Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary. The design is enclosed within an ornate oval frame, with the denomination '2' in numerals at the top corners and the currency 'KR' at the bottom corners. This was the first postage stamp issued by Hungary as a separate postal entity following the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867.
Issued in 1871, this stamp marks Hungary's postal independence within the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It replaced the stamps of the Austrian Empire that were previously used in the Kingdom of Hungary.
