Hungary First Issue, Franz Joseph I
Hungary · 1871 · 2 Krajczár
This stamp is the first postage stamp issued by Hungary. The design features a profile portrait of Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, within an ornate oval frame. The denomination '2' is shown in numerals at the top corners, with the currency 'KR' (Krajczár) at the bottom.
Issued following the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, this stamp marks Hungary's newly established postal independence within the dual monarchy. It replaced the stamps of the Austrian Empire previously used in the territory.
