Hungary 1871 Franz Joseph I Engraved Issue
Hungary · 1871 · 2 Krajczár
This stamp features a right-facing portrait of Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary. The design is framed by an ornate oval, with the denomination '2' in circles at the bottom corners and 'KR' (Krajczár) in the center. The inscription 'MAGYAR KIR. POSTA' (Hungarian Royal Post) appears at the top.
Issued in 1871, this was the first postage stamp of Hungary printed in the country, following the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867 which established the dual monarchy. It replaced the stamps of the Austrian Empire previously used in the territory.
