King Peter I of Serbia, Verigar Chainbreaker Overprint

This stamp features a portrait of King Peter I of Serbia, overprinted on a 1918 Hungarian stamp. The original Hungarian stamp depicted a reaper, but this issue was repurposed for use in the newly formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. The overprint reads 'HRVATSKA / S H S' (Croatia / State of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes).

Issued in early 1919, these overprinted stamps represent the transitional period following World War I and the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, marking the unification of Croatia into the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia).
