Croatia 1941 King Tomislav Imperforate Essays

Croatia · 1941 · 25b, 50b, 1k, 2k

This is a set of four imperforate essays from Croatia, featuring a portrait of King Tomislav, the first king of Croatia. The designs correspond to the definitive series issued in 1941, shown here in different colors and without perforations. Essays are trial printings used to evaluate design, color, and printing techniques before final stamp production.

These essays were created during the short-lived Independent State of Croatia (NDH), a World War II-era puppet state of Germany and Italy, which existed from 1941 to 1945.
