Ethiopia 1919 Definitive Series

Ethiopia · 1919 · Various (Guerche)

This definitive series features portraits of the ruling Empress Zauditu and the Regent and heir, Ras Tafari Makonnen (later Emperor Haile Selassie I). The designs also incorporate the Lion of Judah, a powerful symbol of the Ethiopian monarchy. The stamps were printed in Paris and issued in various denominations of the Ethiopian Guerche.

Issued during the joint reign of Empress Zauditu and Regent Ras Tafari, this series reflects a period of political transition and modernization in the Ethiopian Empire before the Second Italo-Ethiopian War.
