Ethiopia Trial Color Proofs for the 1936 Haile Selassie Issue
Ethiopia · 1936 · Various
This is a collection of trial color proofs for the 1936 definitive series featuring portraits of Emperor Haile Selassie I. The proofs show various color combinations tested before the final stamps were printed. The set was intended to honor the Emperor and replace the previous definitive series.
These proofs were prepared just before the Second Italo-Ethiopian War and the subsequent Italian occupation, which began in 1936. As a result, the issued stamps saw very limited postal use before being replaced by Italian East Africa issues.
