German Occupation of Estonia, Overprint on Soviet Stamp
Estonia (German Occupation) · 1941 · 15 Kopecks
This stamp is a Soviet definitive from 1939 featuring a female collective farm worker. During the German occupation of Estonia in World War II, existing stocks of these Soviet stamps were overprinted with 'ESTLAND' and a new denomination in Reichspfennig, but this initial issue retained the original kopeck value. This particular stamp, the 15 Kopeck, was the first in the series issued under German occupation.
Issued in September 1941, these overprinted stamps represent the transition of postal authority in Estonia from Soviet to German control during the early stages of Operation Barbarossa.
