Denmark 2 Rigsbank Skilling Blue "Fire og Tyve Skillings" Error
Denmark · 1870 · 2s
This classic Danish stamp, part of the 1870-71 bicolored series, features a central numeral '2' within an oval, surmounted by a crown. The frame, printed in a distinct brown, contains the country name and denomination. This particular stamp is a famous error where the frame from the 24s stamp was incorrectly used with the 2s center, resulting in a '2s' value within a 'Fire og Tyve Skillings' (Twenty-Four Skillings) frame.
Issued during the reign of King Christian IX, this bicolored series was a significant step in Danish stamp production. The '2s/24s' frame error is one of the most celebrated rarities in Danish philately, created when the wrong printing plate for the frame was used during the two-color printing process.
