Denmark Coat of Arms and Crown
Denmark · 1851 · 4 R.B.S.
This stamp, known as the 'Thiele printing', features the Danish coat of arms surmounted by a crown, enclosed within an ornate frame of oak leaves. The denomination 'FIRE R.B.S.' (Four Rigsbankskilling) is inscribed below. It was printed on yellowish paper with a watermark showing a crown.
This is one of Denmark's earliest postage stamps, issued just after the first stamp (the 2 R.B.S.) in 1851. It represents the establishment of the postal system in the Kingdom of Denmark under King Frederick VII.
