Cuban Peso, U.S. Administration Issue
Cuba · 1899 · 1c de Peso
This stamp, the first issued under the U.S. military administration of Cuba, features a central vignette of an allegorical representation of the island. The design is framed by ornate scrollwork and inscriptions indicating the country and denomination. It was printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, D.C.
Issued following the Spanish-American War, this series marked the transition from Spanish colonial rule to U.S. administration before Cuba gained formal independence in 1902.
