Canada 12d Black "Queen Victoria"
Canada · 1851 · 12d
This stamp features the Chalon Portrait of a young Queen Victoria, engraved by Alfred Edward Chalon. It is one of the earliest and most iconic stamps of Canada, printed in black on laid paper. The design is renowned for its artistic quality and fine detail.
Issued by the Province of Canada in 1851, the 12d Black was intended for prepayment of postage on letters to Newfoundland and the United States. Due to its high face value, very few were sold, making it one of the great rarities of Canadian philately.
