Canada 3d Beaver, Imperforate

Canada · 1851 · 3d

This stamp, known as the 'Three-Pence Beaver', is Canada's first postage stamp. The design, created by Sir Sandford Fleming, features a beaver building a dam, symbolizing the industry and sovereignty of the young nation. The beaver is framed by the Tudor Crown and the national flower emblems of England (rose), Scotland (thistle), and Ireland (shamrock).

Issued in 1851 by the Province of Canada, this stamp marked the transfer of postal authority from the British General Post Office to the colonial government, a significant step towards Canadian self-governance.
