Bosnia and Herzegovina 1879 Coat of Arms

Bosnia and Herzegovina · 1879 · 1 Kreuzer

This is the first postage stamp issued for Bosnia and Herzegovina under Austro-Hungarian administration. The design features a double-headed eagle, the coat of arms of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, within a shield. The denomination '1' is shown in the upper corners, with the currency 'KREUZER' inscribed at the bottom.

Issued following the 1878 Congress of Berlin, which placed the former Ottoman provinces of Bosnia and Herzegovina under the administration of Austria-Hungary. This stamp marks the beginning of the Austro-Hungarian postal system in the region.
