Austrian Italy Stamps on Preveza Cover
Austrian Italy · 1864 · 5 soldi, 2 soldi
The cover features three Austrian Italy stamps, two 2 soldi and one 5 soldi, depicting Emperor Franz Joseph I in profile. They are cancelled with a single-circle 'PREVESA' postmark dated July 22, 1865.
These stamps were used in an Austrian Post Office in Preveza, part of the extensive network of foreign post offices maintained by European powers in the Ottoman Empire. They represent the Austrian administration of Lombardy-Venetia before its full integration into Italy.
