Albania, Greek Occupation of Northern Epirus (WWII)
Albania · 1940 ·
This series consists of Albanian definitive stamps from the King Zog I era that were overprinted during the Greek occupation of Northern Epirus (Southern Albania) in 1940-1941. The overprint typically reads "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΚΑΤΟΧΗ" (Greek Occupation) in Greek script, sometimes accompanied by a Greek cross or other symbols, applied over the original Albanian designs.
During the Greco-Italian War of WWII, Greek forces advanced into Southern Albania. They issued these overprinted stamps for postal use in the occupied territories between late 1940 and early 1941.
