South Africa Decimal Currency Definitive Series

South Africa · 1961 · Various (Decimal Currency)

This definitive series, known as the 'Decimal Definitives', was issued to coincide with South Africa's switch to a decimal currency system (Rand and Cents). The designs feature a wide range of national symbols, including native animals like the springbok and gnu, protea flowers, agricultural scenes, and portraits of Jan van Riebeeck.

Issued on February 14, 1961, this series marked a significant monetary change for South Africa, just a few months before it became a republic and left the Commonwealth on May 31, 1961.
