French Indochina Postage Stamp, 1904-1907
French Indochina · 1904 · 1c
This definitive stamp features an allegorical design representing France and its colonies. A seated female figure, symbolizing France, gestures towards a globe, with symbols of commerce and navigation, such as a ship and an anchor, in the background. The inscription reads 'INDO-CHINE' at the top and 'POSTES' at the bottom.
Issued as the first general postage stamp for the entire colony of French Indochina, this series replaced the individual issues of its constituent territories (Annam and Tonkin, Cambodia, Cochinchina). It represents the consolidation of French colonial administration in Southeast Asia.
