French Indochina Postage Due Stamp

French Indochina · 1904 · 1c

This is the first postage due stamp issued for French Indochina. The design is purely functional, featuring the large numeral '1' for the one centime value, surrounded by an ornate frame with the inscriptions 'INDO-CHINE' and 'CHIFFRE-TAXE A PERCEVOIR' (Tax Figure to be Collected). The stamp's purpose was to indicate the amount of postage due on underpaid mail.

Issued during the French colonial period, this stamp reflects the administrative systems put in place by France to manage postal services across its Southeast Asian territories, which included modern-day Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.
