French Indochina Postage Due Stamp
French Indochina · 1908 · 1c
This is the first postage due stamp issued for French Indochina. The design is purely typographic, featuring the denomination '1c' (1 centime) prominently in the center, surrounded by an ornate frame. The inscriptions 'INDO-CHINE' and 'POSTES' are at the top, with 'CHIFFRE-TAXE A PERCEVOIR' (Tax figure to be collected) below, indicating its function.
Issued under French colonial rule, these stamps were used to collect insufficient postage from the recipient of a letter. This series replaced the postage due stamps of the individual protectorates of Annam & Tonkin, Cambodia, and Cochinchina.
